Meet Isu: Spa Therapist & Beautician at White Lotus Spa & Wellness
A love of caring for people, a thoughtful approach to treatments, and a cat called Mishu. Get to know one of the welcoming faces behind your White Lotus experience.
Choosing a spa treatment is personal. So is the person looking after you.
At White Lotus Spa & Wellness in Galle, Isu brings together her training in beauty and Panchakarma therapy with a simple intention: helping every guest feel relaxed, refreshed, and confident. Whether she is performing a facial or a massage, her approach begins with listening.
We sat down with Isu to talk about her work, what first-time guests should know, and why stronger massage pressure is not always the right choice.

Isu, tell us a little about yourself and your role.
My name is Isu, and I’m a spa therapist and beautician at White Lotus Spa & Wellness. I enjoy helping guests feel relaxed, refreshed, and confident. Making people feel comfortable and cared for is one of my favourite parts of the job.
What inspired you to become a spa therapist?
I’ve always enjoyed taking care of people and making them feel good. That’s what first drew me to spa and beauty work. I enjoy being able to make a positive difference to someone’s day through a treatment.
What training has shaped your work?
My qualifications include NVQ Level 4 training in beauty therapy and hairdressing, as well as a diploma in Panchakarma therapy.
Alongside my training, practical experience has helped me develop my skills. Working with different guests teaches me a lot, because everyone has different needs and preferences. I enjoy continuing to learn and improve.
Which treatments do you most enjoy performing?
I particularly enjoy facials, massages, and beauty treatments. I like being able to see a positive change in a guest, whether they feel more relaxed or more confident after their treatment. It’s rewarding to see them leave feeling happy with the experience.

If a guest is unsure what to book, how do you help?
I start by asking what they are looking for. Do they want to relax, focus on an area of tension, or give their skin some attention?
Once I understand their priorities, I suggest a treatment that suits their needs. I want them to feel comfortable with their choice.
How would you explain the difference between a relaxing massage and a deep tissue massage?
A relaxing massage generally uses gentler pressure and focuses on helping you unwind. A deep tissue massage uses firmer, more focused pressure to work on areas of muscle tightness.
Some people think stronger pressure always means better results, but that’s a misunderstanding I’d like to clear up. The right pressure depends on the individual, and it should suit their comfort and needs.
How do you make each treatment personal?
Every guest is different, so I adjust my approach to their comfort, preferences, and areas of tension. For beauty treatments, I also consider their skin needs.
Listening is an important part of that. I want guests to feel comfortable telling me what they like and what they would prefer me to change.

What should guests tell you before a treatment?
Please let me know about any allergies, sensitive skin, injuries, or discomfort. It also helps to share any particular concerns or areas you would like me to focus on.
That information helps me adapt the treatment and make the experience safer and more comfortable for you.
What would you say to someone visiting a spa for the first time?
You don’t need to feel worried or know everything beforehand. I’ll guide you through the treatment and help you feel comfortable.
You’re welcome to ask questions and tell me your preferences. We want you to feel at ease throughout your visit.
What do you enjoy most about working at White Lotus?
I enjoy making guests feel welcome and comfortable. Seeing someone leave with a smile makes me happy.
I also love the peaceful environment here in Galle. It supports what we try to offer our guests: time to relax and feel cared for.

How do you relax when you’re away from work?
I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, and reading books. I also love spending time with the people close to me—and with my cat, Mishu!
How would you like guests to feel when they leave your treatment room?
Refreshed, relaxed, confident, and happy with their experience. I’m a friendly and caring person, and I always try to understand what each guest needs. That’s the feeling I hope they take away from their time with me.
